The Red Cross distinguishes itself by offering neutral humanitarian care and by aiding victims of devastating natural disasters like the recent earthquake in Haiti. Compassion International is one of the nation's largest Christian child sponsorship organizations, working with more than 65 denominations. Since 1952, Compassion's revolutionary approach, through one-to-one Christian child sponsorship, has touched the lives of more than 2 million children. For over 35 years, Samaritan's Purse emergency relief programs have provided desperately needed assistance to victims of natural disaster, war, disease, and famine. They offer food, water, and temporary shelter to help meet critical needs and give them a chance to rebuild their lives. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Contributions to Haiti relief in 2010 can be counted on your 2009 tax return.
For individual giving: This new Government ruling enables you to contribute to Haiti in 2010 and claim it on 2009 tax return. Please read this article for more information.
For organizations receiving gifts: We recommend that you create two new funds, i.e. “2009 Haiti Fund” and “2010 Haiti Fund”. Each contributor will indicate which fund their contribution will be designated for based on whether they wish to claim it in their 2009 or 2010 contributions. With fund descriptions such as these, their statements at the end of the year will show as a reminder which year they have or will claim their contribution. If the contributor chooses the 2009 Haiti Fund, they need to indicate whether or not they need a new statement to include with their taxes.
Ways To Use Your ACS™/ PDS™ Software To Help Haiti
Using Online Giving in Access ACS™
If you are an Access ACS client with Online Giving enabled, you can set up a new fund code for Haiti relief. Here are the 4 easy steps:
- Inside ACS™, set up a new Fund Code.
- Then do a standard import to Access ACS to send this new fund code to Access ACS.
- Log in to Access ACS and go to Giving – Online Giving Setup.
- On the Funds menu, select Funds - Manage List to make the Fund available for Online Giving.
Members and Non-Members can now give online in Access ACS, so anyone interested can donate to Haiti through your organization. As you see above its easy to set up an Online Giving Fund within Access ACS to use the funds for your own Haitian relief efforts and/or to distribute those funds to organizations you trust. Keep in mind that the latest release of Access ACS™ gave users the ability to select how your funds appear, so move the Haitian relief fund code to the top right now for greater awareness.
Using Online Giving in PDS Connects™
If you are a PDS Connects client with Online Giving enabled, you can set up a new fund code for Haiti relief using the following 4 steps:
- Inside PDS™, set up a new Fund Code.
- Then do a standard import to PDS Connects to send this new fund code to PDS Connects.
- Log into PDS Connects and go to Giving – Online Giving Setup.
- On the Funds menu, select Funds - Manage List to make the Fund available for Online Giving.
Using the online giving feature in PDS Connects will allow anyone interested to donate to Haiti through your organization. You can use these funds for your own relief efforts or distribute the funds to organizations you trust.
Using your Extend™ Website
Let people know how they can help your organization help Haiti. Update your website with an image that goes to a page about what your organization is doing. If you have:
- Online Giving set up for Haiti, you can provide a link for it.
- Special prayer meetings being organized to pray for the people or your missionaries, you can list the times.
- Mass email communication going out in the next few weeks, you can reference this page. Make sure you use a friendly URL if possible. Example: www.churchname.org/haiti.
- Text Campaigns are getting a lot of media attention now. It’s an easy and quick way to send smaller amounts of funds. Many want to do it, but you don’t know who to trust.
