What's New in HeadMaster 2007?
The HeadMaster 2007 release offers many new enhancements that will help you save time and boost productivity.
Assignments
To save teachers time, when adding an assignment, HeadMaster now displays the last grading period used when an assignment was last added.
You can quickly identify the assignments that have been omitted on the Class Assignment report and Progress Report. The word "omitted" prints beside these assignments.
The Class Assignment report now sorts by the assignment’s due date.
Backup
When an administrator logs in, HeadMaster now checks to see if there is a recent backup of your data. If no backup was made in the last seven days, HeadMaster displays a message urging you to complete a backup.
Billing
Now, when a revenue center is attached to a billing code, the billing code takes on the properties of the revenue center. For example, if the Tax Deductible option is selected on the revenue center, then the billing code is also tax deductible.
The Aging Journal report has been renamed Aging Journal – Detail report.
The addition of an Aging Journal-Summary report provides users with summarized totals without having to view details.
The Billing Inquiry report replaces the Transaction Journal by Student and Transaction Journal by Individual reports.
Classes
You can now assign a department to a class.
The Borrow Roll button name has been changed to Copy Roll.
Correspondence
You now have the ability to create collection letters or e-mails from Correspondence. To do this, users should merge family balances and balances due within selected aging periods (Ex. 30, 60, 90 days) into the Parent or Student letters or e-mails.
Define List
You can now print any of the customized lists found in Define Lists.
Lesson Plans
Teachers can now create and maintain lesson plans.
Administrators can now view lesson plans.
Teachers and administrators can now print:
- A Detailed Lesson Plan that lists the objective, procedures, homework, and materials needed for each day.
- A Weekly Lesson Plan that displays a summary and mirrors lesson plan workbooks.
Mass Change
You can now:
- Mass-delete teacher assignments using a date range.
- Mass-change phone numbers in the system.
- Change the grading-period setup for multiple classes.
Master Scheduler
You can now enter students’ course requests.
Print the Course Request by Student report to view a list of courses requested by a student; or, print the Course Request report to print a course and a list of students who have requested the course.
You can now link a course with a class.
You can now use the Advanced Export utility to create an export file that works with a master-scheduling program.
Using the Utility Manager, you can import student and teacher schedules from a master-scheduling program.
In Options, under Period Setup, users can define class periods and assign a start and end time. This will only be used in the schedule export because it is required by master-scheduling programs.
In the Advanced Export utility, a new Import Schedule option imports student and teacher schedules from Full Control Scheduler™
Permanent Records
You can now track the department that a class belongs to so classes can be grouped together by department on transcripts.
Reports
You can now print a Course Catalog.
Student Transcript and Student Transcript Detail reports can now print either numeric grade and\or the letter grade, depending on the grade type selected for the class. (Points will print the numeric value).
You can now sort or group the Alumni Profile report and the Alumni Address and Phone report by class rank.
Scheduling
You can now create, define, and maintain courses for the purposes of printing a Course Catalog.
School Calendar
You can now set up and print a school calendar. The calendar displays the days that the school plans to open or close as well as display daily events. Additionally, if the school uses A\B scheduling, you can distinguish between A days and B days.
To further customize your school calendar, you can set up holidays, teacher workdays, and school events in Define Lists.
Print a detailed calendar that lists school closings and daily events.
Print monthly calendars for the school year using graphics to show school closings.
Main Windows
The Home screen icons were updated for better usability.
Teachers can view lesson plans on the Calendar tab. (Requires Teacher Login.)
On the Custom tab:
- The Show All option has been removed from the Assignments and Reminders list.
- The Use Small Icons option was added. This makes the icons on the Home screen smaller than the default icons.
- The Show Lesson Plans display option and a group of Lesson Plan Options to customize your view were added.

Security
The following security bits were added:
- Lesson Plan View and Lesson Plan Edit - These options will check for a teacher login. Administrators and other users will have view-only rights.
- Post Grades - This security bit allows users to post grades without having class-edit rights. This option will be the default for teacher logins and anyone who currently has class-edit rights. For new users/installs, a user will need this check to access Post Grades. Note: During the upgrade process, the Class Edit option will be cleared for teacher logins. For new installs, the Class Edit option will not be selected.
- Class Attendance - This option allows users to post class attendance without having class-edit rights. This option will default for teacher logins and anyone who currently has class-edit rights. For new users/installs, a user will need this to post class attendance.
- Billing - This option offers enhanced security for voiding invoices and\or voiding payments.
Students/Pre-enrolled
On Students and Pre-enrolled records, the Citizen check box was moved from the Status section of the General tab to the Name section of the General tab in order to make this area consistent with other areas of the software.
Tools\Options
Added the ability to set up and track departments.
Utility Manager
You can now copy assignments to the next school year when promoting students.
