What is an Update?
An update provides enhancements, changes, and corrections to a software package, making it easier to use, and provide more valuable options for the client. Such changes include adding customer-requested features, broadening functionality, and enhancing usability.
Why would I want to Update?
Staying current with the latest version and build of a product allows you to better serve your community, staff, and members. In addition, being on the latest version allows our support department to better answer your questions in a timely manner. Updates provide features that make the software more efficient, easier to use, and more flexible as enhancements and changes are added.
What are versions and builds?
A version is a variation of a product, while a build is usually a minor change to a version. Versions generally have larger scale changes compared to a build. They may contain data base changes and more enhancements than a build. Our builds normally never contain database changes. Versions come in the way of updates, while builds come in the way of revisions.
What if I have a problem updating?
Sometimes clients may encounter a problem running an update. More often than not, the computers themselves just don't seem to want to cooperate. At times, there can be an underlining issue in the data, which can cause the update not to process completely. The Data Services department is ready to assist you with the update to minimize downtime.
What if I don't have time to update?
In most cases, updates don't take long to run and are encouraged to be loaded in a timely fashion. Putting it to the side can cause it to be forgotten or lost, which can result in your software becoming behind in versions and builds. This can lead to problems later on, but the Data Services department can assist in getting your software to our most recent version. We can schedule a time for your data to be updated, saving you time and allowing you to plan more readily.
How can Data Services help me with my update?
The Data Services department can update your data for you! All we need is a current backup of all financial and people data sets, including pictures, and we can begin working on it at your convenience. This will allow us to minimize your down time.
Why can I not restore my updated data?
Often, when a client sends in their data to be updated, they will receive it back and try to restore it. You will find that the program prevents you from loading the data at times, but there is a good reason. Your software version doesn't match the data version. Having mismatched versions can cause problems and cost time. Before restoring the data, you will need to reinstall your software package, using the latest version. Will I lose information if I reinstall and restore?
No. As long as we received a current backup from you, all of your data information will be kept. Your data is saved in the backups we send back to you. There is no worry about losing data.
How long will it take Data Services to update my data?
We have a 3 - 5 business day turn around time. In many instances, we are able to finish the update in less than 3 days! During the course of the update we make sure everything processes correctly, check for any other minor issues, and check the integrity of your data structures. This ensures that your data will be structurally sound and stable.
