Mother’s Day Ideas for Church Leaders

Mothers Day Ideas

Mother’s Day is one of the holidays we all ponder how to get just right. I mean, it’s our moms we are wanting to honor, and just how do you do that? Here’s what I do know. My mom never wanted to stand up and have people clap for her in church on Mother’s Day or any day. If we put some thought into this, I’m confident we can come up with better Mother’s Day ideas for church leaders to implement this year.

Let’s build on our Mother’s Day church ideas. Look at the perspective found in Luke 2:51, “And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart.” This chapter is an overview of the first 12 years of Jesus’ life with Mary and Joseph. Being in the moment and holding memories close is what means the most when considering Mother’s Day ideas for church.

Set up a photo booth and capture the day. According to a recent study by Lifeway Research, Mother’s Day may be the most likely day people will attend church between Easter and Christmas. This means that Mom will most likely have most, if not all, of her family present.

Get creative with this idea and make sure you have several “photo stations,” so waiting in line isn’t an issue. Rent photo booths for your church lobby. And watch how families squeeze into them like they’re at a carnival or amusement park. Balloon arches and backdrops are very popular; a quick Google search will give you many ideas.

Next level memory making → present Mom with a picture frame complete with a Happy Mother’s Day 2023 sticker on the back with your church info.

Connection point → Including your website on the sticker is an informal but friendly invitation to learn more about your church.

Produce a video featuring the children in the church talking about their moms for a personalized church Mother’s Day welcome. While this won’t include visiting families, it will capture the essence of the day most will find endearing. Yes, this will take some planning, but you can do it! It doesn’t need to be film quality. The beauty of it is the innocence of the child speaking freely about his/her Momma. Have a script ready to prompt them with questions, and put your smartphones to work to capture the moments for your production.

Next-level memory making → share the video on your church website so moms can watch it again after the service.

Connection point → enable the video to be downloaded with the input of an email address. Use it for your follow-up database.

Mother’s Day ideas for church-sponsored tokens of appreciation could focus on how a mother’s hands are the instruments of her work. Equip her mission with a travel-sized care bag. Include hand lotion, band-aids, antibiotic cream, ink pen, sticky notes, alcohol wipes, and lollipops. Whatever you opt to put in the bag, include a printed prayer card for her encouragement:

Lord, I pray for your loving protection to guard all mothers. Guard them and keep them in all their ways. Watch over their going out, and they’re coming in. Give them the physical strength and stamina they need to accomplish what you have purposed for them to do as mothers. Protect them from the schemes of Satan, and may your favor and protection surround them as with a shield (Psalm 5:12). Amen.

Church Mother’s Day ideas include the need to be sensitive to the fact that not everyone in the congregation is a mother. Some would like to become a mother one day. Some have lost a child, and some are men, but hopefully, we can all celebrate having a mother. Focusing on the mothers who raised the congregants helps to unify the body and won’t exclude people.

I came across this blog from Focus on the Family Singapore that a daughter wrote to her mother now that she’s a mother. I want to share an excerpt with you:

Sometimes I ask myself what I can give to / do for you to repay you for all the sacrifices you’ve made for me. I admit that I draw a blank. Cheesy as it may sound, I know that I cannot ever repay you in full. Just as I don’t think my son will ever be able to repay me in full. But that’s the beautiful thing about a mother’s love – it gives and does not expect to be repaid.

So, this Mother’s Day, I just wanted to say thank you. And that my way of repaying you, will be to honor you by being the best mother I can be. I love you.

I don’t know about you, but reading that almost felt like a modern-day Psalm. It made me think about our Savior and His immense love for us that we cannot ever repay. Our words fall short, but we can choose to honor Him. And that, my friends, is the greatest gift we can give to our Mothers. According to 3 John 1:4, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the Truth.”
