When it comes to church outreach, summer is one of the easiest times of the year to plan creative and practical events that have the potential to transform your neighborhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With school out and people seeking fun activities to do with their families, you have unique opportunities to connect with your community that don’t arise during the school year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Idea #1: Backyard Bible School<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Vacation Bible Schoo<\/a>l is often one of your most significant outreach events of the year. However, there are likely families in your community who can’t or will not attend an event on your campus for one reason or another. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plan backyard Bible schools in neighborhoods where you know there are lots of kids you can reach. Ask church members to host your activities or utilize a community gathering space that is conveniently located and accessible on foot from the neighborhood. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sing songs, learn a Bible story, make a craft, and play games just like you would during your regular VBS. Just make sure to plan activities that work well in an outdoor environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You’ll need at least a few volunteers<\/a> to host a successful event, and make sure to follow the same rules for background checks and child safety that you would if you were hosting an event at your church. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some parents may hesitate to let their child go to a strange home with people they don’t know, so be prepared for parents\/guardians to stick around. Have snacks or coffee and dedicated adults to engage with parents who want to let their child participate without worrying. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Backyard Bible Schools don’t have to be fancy. You don’t need to make it complicated or extravagant. Plan some fun activities and invite some of your church kids to come and engage with newcomers, so they feel welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bringing VBS to the neighborhoods in your community is what you need to help you connect with more than just those who attend your regular VBS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Idea #2: Community Block Party<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Hosting a community block party with games, activities, food, and entertainment is a great way to draw people in<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If your church is centrally located, using your campus will provide a free location and help newcomers become familiar with your facilities. If you aren’t near town or close to where people live, consider booking a park or other community gathering space to host your event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can even partner with other churches in your community to help build relationships with both fellow believers and those who are not part of the faith community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have information available about your church and ask some of your members to be present to answer questions from those who are interested. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While you want this event to draw people in and have them connect with your church, building relationships with the people in your community and giving them something without expecting anything in return will go a long way in transforming your neighborhood for the Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Idea #3: School Work Day<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Your local schools undergo a lot of preparation each summer to be ready for students again in the fall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gather your church to help schools do whatever they need to do and knock out some of the tasks on their lists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether it’s landscaping, painting, cleaning, rearranging furniture, helping teachers move classrooms, or something else, showing up ready and willing to serve makes a huge difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many schools, especially in lower-income areas, have a supply closet where students in need can obtain items to help them out. Collecting school supplies or food items to stock this closet or pantry at the school is another excellent way to serve educators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Helping prepare your local schools for the upcoming year will enable you to demonstrate the love of Jesus and may open doors for continued partnership and service to the schools in the months ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Idea #4: Give Out Free Water<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One of the biggest struggles for homeless populations during the summer is staying hydrated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Partner with other churches or community groups to set up and stock water stations for those in need, which can be available throughout the summer (or at least during the hottest parts of the summer). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set up a location on your campus, in a local park, or other accessible gathering space that is available throughout the week for people to come and access the water they need. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please provide information about your church and other resources where people can obtain further assistance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And whenever possible, ask some of your members to be on-site to chat with people when they come to get water. Helping those in difficult situations feel valued and seen, while meeting a physical need and asking nothing in return, will go a long way in opening doors to share the Gospel with the homeless in your community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, while establishing solid partnerships requires work, there are four easy steps you can take to get your community partnerships started.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-1-identify-2-3-areas-of-interest\">Step #1: Identify 2-3 Areas of Interest<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first step to building lasting community partnerships is to identify 2 to 3 areas of interest where your congregation would like to get involved. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Realistically, your ministry can only establish a couple of partnerships at a time, so you need to work with your church leadership and members to choose where you\u2019d like to begin. Once partnerships are built, you can likely maintain more and establish new partnerships without hindering the existing ones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Say some of your members have a passion for serving the homeless population in your community, and others are enthusiastic about helping single parents. Maybe your congregants have connections to the foster care community or would like to see your church serving assisted living facilities more often.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use these ideas as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/solutions\/community-analytics\/?source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=4StepstoBuildingLastingCommunityPartnershipsThroughChurchOutreach\">starting point for identifying areas of your community<\/a> where you could build partnerships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Effective church outreach programs depend on the willingness and dedication of your members. In that case, see if there are similar groups that would be interested in branching out or if any other groups would be willing to partner with you to create something new.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Identifying the right partners for your ministry may take time, or you may know which groups would be a good fit from the beginning.\u00a0Regardless of how long it takes to find the right partners, they must be the right ones if you want to build lasting relationships that lead to future success in outreach.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don\u2019t have the right partners, you\u2019ll spend more time trying to make things work than actually making a difference in your community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-3-determine-how-you-can-work-together\">Step #3: Determine How You Can Work Together<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you\u2019ve identified which organizations or churches you want to partner with for community outreach, you need to determine how you can work together.\u00a0Some organizations have preestablished lists of needs or ways your ministry can support them. Others may need to develop ways of support as you go.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure that whatever is needed for success is something that your congregation is capable of supporting. If they need regular volunteers to run the soup kitchen, but the majority of your congregants have day jobs and aren\u2019t available when needed, you\u2019ll need to find a different way to participate in the outreach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you\u2019re partnering with a group that provides meals for kids or working with a ministry that offers transportation for those who can\u2019t get around on their own, or something totally different, each area of your community has different needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To build a lasting partnership with others in your community who share a commitment to serving others, it is essential to be aligned on how to provide assistance. If they have one vision and your church has another, you\u2019ll spend more time competing with each other than actually making a difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-4-engage-your-congregation\">Step #4: Engage Your Congregation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have a list of potential ways to work together, you can collaborate with your congregation to address these needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the opportunities to provide for the people in your community to share the love of Jesus with them.\u00a0Ask your members to participate regularly in meeting the physical needs outlined by your partners and to serve in person, building relationships within your community.\u00a0Connecting with people on a personal level while meeting their needs will open Health experts tell us we need to take a break from work activity. Our media is filled with suggestions for self-care. You may be like me, grabbing time when you can, but not really conscious of how you’re using it. And I do not typically connect the concept of leisure with my time at Mass. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our 2025 ACST American Beliefs research, we explored the concept of free time and the emotions we experience during it. When asked what positive emotions people experience from their favorite free-time activities, enjoyment and happiness were at the top of the list. However, belonging, giving back, and community lag far behind:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"564\" src=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/04\/Screenshot-2026-04-06-at-9.13.06-AM-1024x564.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/04\/Screenshot-2026-04-06-at-9.13.06-AM-1024x564.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/04\/Screenshot-2026-04-06-at-9.13.06-AM-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/04\/Screenshot-2026-04-06-at-9.13.06-AM-768x423.png 768w, https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/04\/Screenshot-2026-04-06-at-9.13.06-AM.png 1286w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This came into sharp focus in a <a href=\"https:\/\/watch.getcontrast.io\/watch\/acst-faith-ai-and-human-connection-a-conversation-on-technology-and-the-church\">webinar<\/a> conversation with Brett Robinson, Associate Director of Outreach for the McGrath Center at the University of Notre Dame, and Chris Kehayias, ACST Senior VP of AI and Innovation. In the conversation, Robinson refers to what he calls a \u201cnew solipsism,\u201d where we retreat into our own minds and imagination, engaging with AI versus other people\u2013outside of the tribe. With social media, we started to divide ourselves into groups based on interest or viewpoint. Now, with AI, we are operating individually with a bot or agent reacting to our innermost personal thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wow. This makes sense if you consider that much of leisure time is spent less often interacting with other people than it is sitting with our screen scrolling through the content of our choice. So it’s no wonder we might experience enjoyment, but not belonging or community.  <br><br>Yet the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/acst-catholic\/guides\/faith-in-flux\/\">trends<\/a> in our AmericanBeliefs research indicate that we are searching for warm and friendly encounters, which, when we dug into the meaning, are all about connection, community, and belonging:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"589\" src=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/04\/Screenshot-2026-04-06-at-9.13.52-AM-1024x589.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/04\/Screenshot-2026-04-06-at-9.13.52-AM-1024x589.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/04\/Screenshot-2026-04-06-at-9.13.52-AM-300x173.png 300w, https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/04\/Screenshot-2026-04-06-at-9.13.52-AM-768x442.png 768w, https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/04\/Screenshot-2026-04-06-at-9.13.52-AM.png 1172w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Is leisure time overrated? Not at all, but perhaps we are thinking about it the wrong way!  Robinson offers this, from philosopher Josef Pieper: <strong>the highest form of leisure is worship<\/strong>. He adds \u201cand the only true and pure rest is in the Lord, in worship, is with other people\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This puts leisure into a very different light! Rather than a way to fill time, it is a time for inspiration and connection to our faith and to each other.  Our AmericanBeliefs researchers concluded that \u201cPracticing Christians report higher levels of happiness, peace, and contentment from their leisure activities\u201d. Our time in worship informs the way we spend our leisure. In these times of loneliness and disconnection, our parishes provide the way to connection and to peace through encounters with Christ. I know I will be placing even greater priority on time at church!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we experience the (to most of us) abstract concept of AI and the bots and agents we interact with, we must also be clear that there is the mystical experience of our faith that offers the connection and comfort we areso desperately seeking. Our parishes can be the place of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/acst-catholic\/guides\/creating-a-welcoming-parish-in-a-lonely-world\/\">refuge and connection<\/a>, and our Catholic schools can provide the foundation in humanities and philosophy that are lost in digital algorithms.  <br><br>I am encouraged and inspired by the great examples of parishes and dioceses across the country who are experiencing an increase in vocations and in conversions. Catholics?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I was intrigued by the February 5 article from researcher Ryan Burge titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.graphsaboutreligion.com\/p\/cultural-jews-and-cultural-catholics?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=1561197&post_id=185664218&utm_campaign=email-post-title&isFreemail=true&r=1dhn32&triedRedirect=true&utm_medium=email\">\u201cCultural Jews and Cultural Catholics? Who belongs without believing?\u201d<\/a> In the article, Burge revisits the question of religion as cultural identity: \u201cWhen we\u2019re asked, \u201cAre you religious?\u201d There are a number of different ways someone might justify an affirmative answer. It could be that they attend a house of worship regularly or pray frequently. It could be that they hold specific beliefs about Jesus Christ or Muhammad. Those would be behavior and belief measures of religion. But there\u2019s a third dimension that often gets overlooked: belonging.\u201d<br><br>Any of us who have been immersed in the Strengths and Engagement community over the past decade have at least heard, and likely said and meant the words \u201cbelonging leads to believing.\u201d The idea is that we become more deeply engaged in our parishes as we move through the more superficial connections, \u201cwhat do I get?\u201d and \u201cwhat can I give?\u201d The opportunity for encounter and formation begins when we can answer positively to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/engagement-is-not-enough-how-to-build-parish-community\/\">Do I belong here?<\/a>\u201d and \u201cAm I growing?\u201d.<br><br>Burge probes this by asking what about those of us who participate because we belong, but do not have a strong or any faith connection to our religion. I inherently grasp the idea of Jewish people who identify as Jewish because that is their ethnic heritage. However, I had not ever focused on that question for Catholics. My mind rushes to those of us who show up only at Christmas or Easter, and many who call themselves Catholic but do not participate in any parish or additional education. Many of us call ourselves \u201ccradle Catholics\u201d because we were born into a family that professed to be Catholic. And Msgr Shea reminds us of the many years of what he calls \u201cChristendom\u201d during which so many of us cradle Catholics belonged and even attended Mass because \u201cthat is what we do.\u201d<br><br>When I think about it, for my personal experience, it makes sense to identify culturally as Catholic. I grew up with many traditions and celebrations that were more about how various ethnic groups of people acknowledged their Catholicity.  I\u2019m comfortable in the environment, comfortable visiting a Catholic parish, and attending Mass.  For the first decades of my life, I thought it was pretty much everyone\u2019s experience.  A move to South Carolina in my late 20\u2019s showed me that was not true!<br><br>There is some good news here.  Burge’s graph below shows that the larger percentage of Catholics identify for religious and faith reasons rather than cultural. The report reminds us to continue to focus our efforts on providing people a path to move from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/belonging-leads-to-believing-3-actions-for-parishes\/\">belonging to believing<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/02\/image-1024x682.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22234\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/02\/image-1024x682.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/02\/image-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/02\/image-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/02\/image-1536x1023.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/02\/image-930x620.png 930w, https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/02\/image.png 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I find the distinction between cultural and religious adherents very helpful. Through awareness, parish leaders and all parishioners can use this to identify ways to invite each other to a greater intentionality and curiosity. This is a good opportunity for self-reflection. When I answer that I am Catholic, what do I mean? If I identify culturally but not religiously, then why is that? Have I listened for the Holy Spirit and opened myself to the possibility of looking again or looking deeper?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>May you encounter the Holy Spirit and be filled with the light of Christ!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Terry Poplava<\/strong> serves as General Manager, ACST Catholic. live on the mission field, we are all called to be missionaries right where God has placed us. And that means making every effort to share the Good News with the people around you through your outreach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But despite your best attempt, sometimes your outreach just isn\u2019t working. If that happens, you may be left wondering what you did wrong, especially if you feel you\u2019ve put in everything you could to make it a success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The good news is that even if you\u2019ve fallen victim to one of these outreach pitfalls, they\u2019re easily fixable, so you can see the life-changing impact next time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-you-fail-to-follow-up\">#1: You Fail to Follow Up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Planting seeds in your community is a great idea. But even an average gardener knows that nothing will grow if the seeds aren\u2019t tended continually. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sharing the Gospel with dozens of people at your Fourth of July community picnic is great, but if you don\u2019t follow up with those connections, those people will struggle to grow into mature disciples equipped to make disciples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For successful outreach, it is essential to have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/3-steps-to-make-church-outreach-events-easier\/?source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=WhyIsntMyOutreachWorking\">plan in place beforehand to follow up<\/a> with each genuine connection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as a gardener would provide water regularly, ensure adequate sunlight, and prevent pests from causing harm, if you want to see the seeds of your outreach grow, you have to be intentional. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While it is true that only the Master Gardener knows if a seed will grow to bear good fruit, He does charge His followers with participating in the care and maintenance of each one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Effective follow-up after an outreach program or event is just as important as the connections themselves. Those connections need to know that they matter in the long run and that your ministry wants to accompany them on their faith journey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you fail to follow up after an outreach effort, that may be a big reason why your outreach isn\u2019t working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-you-aren-t-actually-connecting\">#2: You Aren\u2019t Actually Connecting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have dozens of volunteers on site for your outreach event, but they spend more time socializing with each other than connecting with new people, then you don\u2019t have an outreach event. You have a church gathering that some community members attended. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s easy to think that you\u2019re making connections and building relationships with people during your outreach programs, especially when you have plenty of church members on hand to make everything a success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But part of successful outreach is training your volunteers how to connect with people and what is expected of them during their service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>If you find that your outreach isn\u2019t building relationships and that you aren\u2019t making as big an impact as you thought your efforts should be, it\u2019s possible that you aren\u2019t actually connecting.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sharing the Gospel becomes significantly easier when you have a preexisting relationship with the person you\u2019re trying to share with. And many of those relationships begin with connecting during an outreach event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the importance of making connections, it\u2019s absolutely vital that you train your volunteers on how to do this and continually evaluate to ensure it\u2019s happening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It doesn\u2019t matter how many people you have in attendance if you\u2019re missing the opportunity to introduce them to Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-you-re-prioritizing-the-wrong-things\">#3: You\u2019re Prioritizing the Wrong Things<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Having beautiful decorations, amazing food, and dozens of fun activities are all good things, but if you aren\u2019t prioritizing the right things for outreach, you\u2019ll struggle to see success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main things you should focus on are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/personality-matters-how-to-match-volunteers-with-the-right-roles\/?source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=WhyIsntMyOutreachWorking\">training your volunteers<\/a> to build genuine connections and share the Gospel with the people they encounter, having a solid follow-up plan, and finding ways to meet people where they are so that doors can be opened for Gospel conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everything else is secondary. The other things may help you accomplish your outreach priorities, but they shouldn\u2019t be your primary focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The whole point of outreach is to meet the needs of your community and introduce them to the Savior of the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you feel like you aren\u2019t having any luck really connecting with people, it\u2019s possible you\u2019re putting too much emphasis on the wrong things. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Review your priority list as you plan your next event. Ensure that the areas where you\u2019re dedicating resources and manpower are the right ones that will help you achieve the ultimate goals of the outreach effort. As long as those important things are covered, you can allocate as much or as little toward the secondary things as your ministry desires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Outreach is already a challenging area of ministry to evaluate in terms of success. Planting the seeds of the Good News while meeting the needs of the people around you isn\u2019t always a tangible thing you can measure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you find that your outreach efforts continually fall short of what you think they should be achieving, take the time to check for these three common pitfalls. Your outreach programs may not have been successful up to this point, but you can easily remedy these things and see the life-changing results you long to see in your Churches Can Make a Huge Difference in Their Communities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Small churches are the backbone of the Body of Christ, with an estimated 70% of all United States churches having fewer than 100 members (<a href=\"https:\/\/research.lifeway.com\/2021\/10\/20\/small-churches-continue-growing-but-in-number-not-size\/\">Lifeway Research<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While these small churches may not be growing in the size of their congregations, they are essential in reaching their communities for the Kingdom of God. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re part of a small body of believers, you may be tempted to believe that your church is too small to do anything important. You see limited resources, few volunteers, and other, larger churches that seem better equipped to change your community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While you might not have the largest budget or the biggest pool of volunteers to pull from, God can and will bless your efforts to serve Him in your city, even if you think your impact isn\u2019t that big. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 3 very important things you must remember if you want to see the difference your church can make in your community, no matter how big or small your congregation is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-small-does-not-mean-insignificant\">#1: Small Does Not Mean Insignificant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bible contains numerous examples that show that size does not equate to value. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%2012%3A41-44&version=NIV\">Mark 12<\/a>, Jesus praises a woman who gave only two small coins because the heart behind her gift mattered more than the amount she gave. And in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew%2019%3A13-14&version=NIV\">Matthew 19<\/a>, Jesus directs His disciples to let the little children come to Him and does not hinder them simply because they are young. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both stories demonstrate that the Savior of the world cares more about the heart than about its size. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your ministry may not be as big as the church down the street or have as large a budget as the church across town. But the size of your congregation does not mean your body of believers is insignificant in the Kingdom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God regularly used the unlikely, the small, and the meek to bring glory to His Name and to change the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/five-simple-ways-to-uncover-hidden-needs-in-your-community\/?source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=SmallChurchesCanMakeaHugeDifferenceinTheirCommunities\">make a huge difference in your community<\/a>, no matter how small your church, you have to believe that small does not mean insignificant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Father can and will use your ministry as long as you do everything with a heart longing to serve Him and a desire to see lives changed for eternity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-even-one-is-huge-to-god\">#2: Even One is Huge to God<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The true measure of successful church outreach isn\u2019t how many people you connect with but rather how many make the life-altering decision to give their lives to Christ. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus tells us in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/verse\/en\/Luke%2015%3A10\">Luke 15<\/a> that the angels rejoice in Heaven over one sinner who chooses to repent. And He claims in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew%2018%3A12-13&version=NIV\">Matthew 18<\/a> that a good shepherd will leave 99 sheep to track down and restore a single missing sheep, and that he will rejoice when that sheep is returned to the flock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t need hundreds of members or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/big-impact-small-budget-8-ways-to-stretch-your-outreach-resources\/?source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=SmallChurchesCanMakeaHugeDifferenceinTheirCommunities\">thousands of dollars<\/a> to make genuine connections with the people in your community. Those connections are what allow you to plant the seeds of redemption in the hearts of your neighbors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It doesn\u2019t matter how much time, money, and effort you put into your outreach programs as long as you are doing all you can with what the Father has given. Because the salvation of just one person matters more than the planting of dozens of seeds that never grow to fruition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-the-heart-matters-more\">#3: The Heart Matters More<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Gospel is very clear that the heart of the disciple matters more than any word or deed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the things you say and do are a reflection of what lies in your heart, it is the motivation and desire behind everything that is important to the Father. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having 50 people in your pews who are on fire for God and long to see your community transformed by the Good News will do far more than an auditorium of thousands who claim faith but don\u2019t live it out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The secret to making a huge difference in your community, regardless of the size of your congregation, is to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/3-ways-church-outreach-benefits-your-members-not-just-your-community\/?source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=SmallChurchesCanMakeaHugeDifferenceinTheirCommunities\">invest in the hearts of your people<\/a> so they\u2019re equipped to invest in the hearts of your community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Making a huge difference isn\u2019t about the size of your outreach efforts or the amount you\u2019ve invested in connecting with your community. The size of the difference you make is completely contingent on the transformation that comes from a genuine heart allowing God to move. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to changing your community and making a difference in the lives of those around you, the size of your congregation doesn\u2019t matter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must believe that size does not equal significance, that even one life changed is a big deal to the Father, and that the hearts of your congregants and the people you\u2019re working to reach matter more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you truly believe these things, then the success of your ministry will not be limited by how many people you have in your pews. and resurrection. This is a week of reflection as believers prepare for the most important day on the Christian calendar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it is the perfect opportunity to do what Jesus did best during His ministry: connect with those in need and introduce outsiders to the love of God. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/outreach-for-new-visitors-this-easter\/?source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=FromPalmSundaytoResurrectionSunday\">Church outreach<\/a> during the Easter season is often limited to egg hunts and a few special services. However, there are numerous ways you can serve those in need and plant life-changing seeds that lead to faith in Jesus as Savior, especially during Passion Week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-palm-sunday-jesus-triumphal-entry-into-jerusalem\"><strong>Palm Sunday<\/strong>: Jesus\u2019 triumphal entry into Jerusalem<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Palm Sunday is a day of celebration. The people in Jerusalem celebrated Jesus as king and praised Him as the rightful ruler of Israel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In anticipation of the week to come and to echo the celebratory nature of Palm Sunday, host a celebratory picnic and egg hunt after your Sunday services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Passion Week begins and ends with a celebration, so start this week off by honoring Jesus as King and preparing your hearts for the week ahead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plan the picnic in a location that encourages your community to participate and select a time that won’t conflict with others’ schedules. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use Resurrection Eggs or another storytelling device to share the events of the upcoming week and the significance of Jesus’ death and resurrection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will likely be people at your picnic and egg hunt who aren\u2019t familiar with the events of Passion Week. So take the time to invite them into fellowship with your congregation and introduce them to the ultimate love story of a Savior willing to die to rescue His people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-holy-monday-jesus-cleanses-the-temple\"><strong>Holy Monday<\/strong>: Jesus cleanses the temple<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On the first day of Passion Week, Jesus cleansed the temple of those who would defile the sacred space. The people of Jesus\u2019 day had taken something beautiful and made it into a place of ugliness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Jesus was focused on removing corruption and restoring the temple as a house of worship, you can use this day to bring beauty back to parts of your community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Partner with other ministries or organizations to hold a community cleanup day. Many people will likely have to work or attend school during the day, so plan your activities in the late afternoon or evening when most people can participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can pick up trash in local parks, plant flowers in community areas, or help clean up other spots around town that will bring the spaces back to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-holy-tuesday-jesus-teaches-on-the-mount-of-olives\"><strong>Holy Tuesday<\/strong>: Jesus teaches on the Mount of Olives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus was the ultimate teacher. He took time to answer questions and help people understand the complexities and mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use this day to connect with and support the teachers in your community who work hard to build up the next generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prepare a special breakfast, assemble goodie bags, or create thank-you cards as a way to acknowledge their commitment to educating others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Invite members of your congregation to deliver the items and to chat with the teachers about why you\u2019ve chosen this day to celebrate them. And having information ready about your ministry and upcoming services, so teachers can participate in more Passion Week activities if they want to learn more about the Savior of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-spy-wednesday-judas-agrees-to-betray-jesus\"><strong>Spy Wednesday<\/strong>: Judas agrees to betray Jesus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While we don\u2019t know what Jesus was doing on this day, we do know that it was on this day that one of His closest friends and followers decided to betray Him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each of the events of Passion Week plays a crucial role in the overall rescue story that God began telling in Genesis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use your Wednesday service or Bible study time to invite people to come and ask questions about the events of Passion Week and the story of Jesus. Host an open forum event, either at your church or in a community location, where people can learn more without fear of judgment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many will hesitate to ask questions out of fear of looking silly or being mocked for not knowing. So, use this opportunity to answer their questions without feeling intimidated. Have an anonymous question box or designate members of your congregation to ask the more common questions so people can get the answers they need about God without fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-maundy-thursday-jesus-and-his-disciples-share-the-last-supper-amp-jesus-is-arrested-in-the-garden-of-gethsemane\"><strong>Maundy Thursday<\/strong>: Jesus and His disciples share the last supper & Jesus is arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On His last day as a free man, Jesus spent the day with His disciples, sharing a final meal before retreating to pray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Partner with your local food bank or soup kitchen to provide a special meal for those in need. Break bread with the people in your community who need to see a friendly face and be reminded that Jesus came to die for them, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ask your members to help prepare the meal, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/solutions\/giving\/?source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=FromPalmSundaytoResurrectionSunday\">contribute financially<\/a> to the effort, or come and connect with those seeking a warm meal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-good-friday-jesus-is-crucified-and-is-buried-in-joseph-of-arimethea-s-tomb\"><strong>Good Friday<\/strong>: Jesus is crucified and is buried in Joseph of Arimethea\u2019s tomb<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While the first Good Friday was a day of death and mourning for Jesus and His followers, it is a day of hopeful anticipation for us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Host a Good Friday service in a local park or other community gathering place where passersby can hear the hope of the Easter story without the intimidation or anxiety associated with attending a regular service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Offer activities and refreshments to draw people in, and then use the time to share the story of Easter with those seeking the hope offered by the Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-holy-saturday-jesus-body-lies-in-the-tomb\"><strong>Holy Saturday<\/strong>: Jesus\u2019 body lies in the tomb<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Little happened the day after Jesus died, besides a lot of wondering and waiting, even though Jesus had told His followers exactly what would happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use this day to present a Passion Play that tells the story of salvation from start to finish. Ask your congregation to participate in the production, and invite your whole community to the event. If possible, make tickets free to remove any barriers to attending. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on your resources, you can present a semi-professional production, put together a children\u2019s production of the Easter story, or develop something in between. The only requirement is that you use the opportunity to share the truth of the Gospel with those who attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-resurrection-sunday-jesus-is-raised-from-the-dead\"><strong>Resurrection Sunday<\/strong>: Jesus is raised from the dead<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Resurrection Sunday (or Easter Sunday) is the most important day for followers of Christ. While other days like Christmas are significant in their own ways, without the culmination of God\u2019s rescue story in the resurrection, the rest of the days don\u2019t matter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout all the other outreach activities you conduct during Passion Week, you should invite people to your services on Resurrection Sunday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people who don\u2019t normally attend church are willing to try it out during the Easter season. Ensure your community is aware of your upcoming services, and do everything possible to present your best self. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ensure you have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acstechnologies.com\/church-growth\/how-to-turn-first-time-easter-volunteers-into-long-term-servants\/?source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_source=Top%20of%20Funnel&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=FromPalmSundaytoResurrectionSunday\">plenty of volunteers<\/a> lined up for children and youth, recruit your most outgoing and engaging greeters, and make your Easter services the best they possibly can be. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While you don\u2019t want to put all your effort into the services for Resurrection Sunday and ignore the rest of the year, it is essential to make a good impression on those seeking hope during this time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Easter season is one of the few times of the year when those who aren\u2019t connected with the Body of Christ are actively seeking ways to connect.
