Worthington Christian Church, located outside of Columbus, OH, is on a mission to fulfill the Great Commission: to make disciples, so that they can then go out into the world to make disciples, as Christ commanded.
Since their beginnings over 40 years ago, the church has been dedicated to fulfilling their vision: “To make and develop followers of Jesus Christ.” They do this by connecting to Christ and others, being transformed into the likeness of Christ, and impacting the world for Christ.
It all starts with connecting with Christ through life groups and connect classes, to help their people develop a relationship with Christ. With that foundation, they’re able to begin their discipleship journey, go out into the world, serve others, and make disciples.
Twice each year, the people of Worthington Christian Church host a “Send Me Event.” Hundreds of people volunteer to go out into their community and help those in need. One group found out that music could help bring back memories in Alzheimer patients. So they helped donate iPods, downloaded the patients’ favorite music, visited with and presented the Alzheimer patients with the iPods. They’ve packed police appreciation bags, homeless care packs, meals on wheels, and so much more. And each year on Super Bowl Sunday, Worthington Christian Church participates in the Hunger Bowl, where they pack meals for poverty-stricken school children in Haiti. This year, 440 volunteers packed 100,000 meals!
The largest event of the year for Worthington Christian Church is Vacation Bible School. Last year, they hosted at least 1,400 local children, many of whom come from unchurched families in the area. The goal and the hope is that these kids will look back on their time at VBS, whether it be the following year or in 10 years, remember their experience, and want to get involved in a church.
With an average of 1100-1200 people attending each week, plus all of their events and outreach ministries, Worthington Christian Church wanted to be sure their whole church had a way to build community with each other. That’s where Realm came in. With their previous system, nobody wanted to join. It wasn’t user friendly, and it was more back-office oriented. Now, with Realm, they’re able to give their people a way to communicate with each other and within their own groups… anytime. Their people are able to live their mission each day: to go and make disciples.
