3 Ways Your Parish Can Still Have Vacation Bible School This Year

vacation bible school

Vacation bible school is a fundamental growing block in the spiritual life of a child. Children look forward to this event every year. Instead of “Will your parish be able to offer VBS this year?” the question should be “How can our parish offer VBS this year?”

Here are 3 simple ways your Parish can still have VBS this year:

  1. Later Date
    • Consider scheduling VBS for a later date in the year. Choose a time in late summer or fall, weekends or evenings. Also, have health and safety guidelines in place that will be enforced. This will help ease the minds of concerned parents. Evaluate your outdoor areas, can they be utilized instead of classrooms?
  2. Small Groups
    • If being in smaller groups makes parishioners feel safer, think about a small group version of VBS. Would select homes in your parish be willing to host the event for different age groups? Determine the curriculum that would benefit the select age groups. You can meet outside or in an area of the home where you can be socially distant. Still have health and safety guidelines in place so families will feel secure about sending their children.
  3. All Online
    • Virtual VBS is another option. Create a registration event online and have everyone register. Send them their curriculum digitally or by mail. Then provide them with a link to join bible school through GoogleMeets, Zoom, or any other platform your parish currently uses.

There is no doubt that bible school will look different this year. Determine which solution for VBS will work best for your parish and go for it! Do as God calls us to do “Go and make disciples of all nations”.
