It’s that time of the year at your church or parish when you’re ready to start planning your fall events. It’s hard to determine how to have church services at this time much less plan your normal events. We wanted to give you a few tips and tricks to help you out.
- Only host the events that support the mission and vision of your church or parish. Quarantine has really given us all time to think. Consider what events are most important for your church and only do those events. Let the others fall by the wayside.
- Try to plan as much as you can outdoors. Whether it’s trunk-or-treat or providing meals on Thanksgiving, having it outdoors makes everyone attending feel much safer. For trunk-or-treat make sure all of the candy stations are six feet apart. Consider doing a drive-thru or walk-up food service for Thanksgiving this year. You could even consider having tables outside for people to sit but make sure they are at least 6 apart and only one family to a table unless they feel comfortable otherwise.
- Implement the same strategies you are using for your in-person services. Most people are used to wearing masks, disinfecting, and staying 6’ away by now. Make sure you implement these same policies during your event. I would even suggest having disinfecting stations throughout the event. You could order cloth masks to go along with the theme of your event to hand out to attendees.
No matter what events you decide to host this year just take time to prayerfully consider them. Are they necessary? Do they support our mission? What’s the best way to keep people safe? Answer all of the important questions first then planning will be a breeze.
