In this edition, we’re going behind the build with the Realm team to look at one of their biggest areas of focus in 2026: helping churches communicate more effectively.
Every year, we pick a handful of themes to organize the Realm roadmap around. This year, one of them has been communication.
That word covers a lot of ground, so let me be specific about what it looks like in practice. We’ve released 10 enhancements in 2026 so far aimed squarely at helping you reach the people in your ministry:
- Opt Out Dashboard — View & Manage email & text opt outs.
- Personalize emails— Merge in Names or Salutations wherever you email in Realm
- Reminder emails for events— Setup reminder emails for Group & Registration events
And this month, Realm Texting is front and center. If you don’t already have it, texting is now available to you — Choose Text Messaging from the Communications Menu.
Why communication?
Honestly? Because I think communication is one of the hardest parts of any job.
I believe the hardest part is telling the right story to the right audience, at the right time. Getting those three aligned equals a message that moves someone, makes ministry actionable instead of a message that gets scrolled past or lands in an inbox already full of things that didn’t feel meant for them.
Ministry communication is not just about the contact list; you’re caring for people at wildly different places in their lives. The family that just visited for the first time needs something different than the volunteer who’s been serving for fifteen years. The person quietly stepping back needs to be noticed before they disappear. Every one of those moments is a communication decision, and most of them have to be made quickly, by someone already wearing four other hats.
